Joel Hancock

WHITWELL — Joel Alan Hancock, 59, passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016. Mr. Hancock was a member of Whitwell First Baptist Church and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad as a machinist for 32 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Will and Wilma Hancock. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 39 years, Lisa Griffith Hancock; two children, Kelli (Roger) Layne, Tyler (Shanda) Hancock; two grandchildren, Ava McCall Layne, Ella Elisabeth Layne, all of Whitwell; sister, Donna (Alan) Hancock Stephenson, of Nashville; two nephews, Reed Stephenson, of Kennesaw, Ga., Ben (Kara) Stephenson, of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Susan (Fred) Joseph; niece, Sarah Joseph, of Jasper, and a host of family and friends. The family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 4, at the funeral home and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the church. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at Whitwell First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Massey officiating. Interment will follow in the Sycamore Cemetery, Gassaway, TN.
