Ave Marie Bareham

Ave Maria Logan Bareham, 85 years young, went to join her heavenly family on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Dec. 19, 1930, to George A. and Marie Boysen Logan. She was the youngest of five children. She attended The College of Notre Dame of Maryland, where she made lifelong friends and graduated with a degree in Mathematics. During her college years in Baltimore, she met her husband of 50 years, the late William C. Bareham Jr., who was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University. They married in 1952 and moved to Germany while Bill served time in the United States Army. Upon return to the States, Bill’s career as an IBM engineer moved them wherever the exploration of space required them to be. It was an exciting time. She was a passionate, hardworking and dedicated wife, and mother to her three girls. She loved her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She found joy and magic in life and her contagious smile radiated sunlight. She loved laughter and dancing and was good at both. Ave lived life according to God’s commandments and believed in His promises. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Jude Catholic Church, never hesitating to help out wherever needed. She worked in the church library, cleaned the linens and the priests’ vestments, and was involved with the First Friday Pancake Breakfast. Ave volunteered over 2,000 hours at Erlanger Hospital and then gave of her time at Memorial Hospital for many years. Ave had many hobbies such as sewing, cooking, bowling, bridge, and dabbled in antiques. She even took up painting! Her last years were spent at Manorhouse Assisted Living where she lifted the spirits of her fellow residents, helped lead the exercise classes, and participated in her favorite game of bingo. Ave was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill; and her brothers and sisters, George Logan, Marie Rieb, Gloria Bergmann, and William Logan. She is survived by her daughters, Ave (Thomas) Henley, of Chattanooga, Morella Ann Bareham, of Chattanooga, Shelley (Doug) Mathews, of Gotha, Fla.; grandchildren, Emily (Shawn) Goughler, Anna Henley, Sarah (Kevin) Rhoady and Matthew (Chelsea) Henley, all of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Logan, Claire and Emma. The family wishes to express deep appreciation for those who cared for Ave during her last years. A special thank-you to Manorhouse Assisted Living, Hospice of Chattanooga, and Kim Walker’s Caregivers. Donations may be made to St. Jude Catholic Church. Visitation is Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace from 5 to 7 p.m. Mass will be Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at St. Jude Catholic Church on Ashland Terrace at 11:30 a.m. Interment is a private ceremony for family only.
