Clarence Durham

Walter Clarence Durham, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 12, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace Denson Durham and Odessa Tinker Durham; his sister, Bertha Durham Kelly; brothers, William, Farris. (Cotton), Millard and Ralph Durham. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Virginia Sivley Durham; two daughters, Brenda (Charles) Poe, of Chattanooga, and Carolyn Ellis (Gary) Graham, of Dalton, Ga.; three granddaughters, Sheri Greene, of Atlanta, Ga.; Stephanie Reynolds, of Dalton, Ga.; Emily Collier, of Chattanooga; six great-grandchildren; brother, Rev. A.C. Durham, of Trenton, Ga.; sister, Lorena Fowler, of Trenton, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. He worked for many years for D.M. Steward Mfg. Company and Marsh Ceramics before starting his own company, Dade Machine and Welding. He served honorably on the Board of Directors of The Bank of Dade for 40 years and as their property appraiser part of that time. He was a member of Trenton Masonic Lodge No. 179, Alhambra Shriners and Scottish Rite of Chattanooga. He was a charter member and served as Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church. Clarence was a man of integrity. He loved God, family, country and his beloved Dade County, where he was born. Special thanks to his caregivers, Carol Dennis and special niece Wilma Durham Watkins; The Terrace at Mountain Creek and Hospice of Chattanooga. Visitation will be held today, from 4 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, at 11 a.m., EDT, at Sulphur Springs Cemetery, with Brother Billy Wallace officiating.
