Clinton Verstynen

DECATUR — Clinton L. Verstynen, 89, formerly of Hixson, Tenn., and Rockford, Ill., died Aug. 18, 2017, at NHC Health Care in Athens, Tenn., surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hazel Verstynen; brothers, Charles and Dan and sisters, Alice Peper and Margaret Lofgren; his loving wife of 50 years, Patsy Ruth (Allen) Verstynen. Clinton is survived by daughter Barbara (Tom) Boswell, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; son, Michael (Linda) Verstynen, Decatur, Tenn. and daughter, Linda (Kerry) Fite, Seymour, Tenn.; and several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Clinton Joined U.S. Navy after graduation from high school, serving in the Philippines in 1945 on LST 975. Clinton was a member and Past Master of the Loves Park Masonic Lodge. He loved spending time with his family, flying, fishing and traveling. The family wishes to thank special caregiver, Joyce Richesin and staffs at Morning Pointe of Athens and NHC Healthcare of Athens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society – Meigs County, 6221 Shallowford Rd. #102 Chattanooga, TN 37421. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, from noon to 1 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace. Funeral service for Clinton will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Hugh Bryan officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
