Mae Pittman

DOTHAN — May Belle Pittman, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017 at her residence. She was 95. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. tomorrow Aug. 23, 2017 at Hickory Valley Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tenn. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends 10 to 11 a.m. prior at the church. Mrs. Pittman was born Nov. 7, 1921 in Jackson County, Ala. and lived there the early years of her life. She resided in Ooltewah, Tenn. most of her life before moving to Dothan in 2015. Mrs. Pittman worked at the Hamilton County Nursing Home for 17 years before her retirement in 1982. She loved being a mother first and foremost, but she also loved quilting and making corn bread for church members at Hickory Valley Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN. She is preceded in death by her husband, John R. Pittman; her son, John Floyd Pittman; her daughter, Deborah Faye Pittman; her grandson, John William Dapper Jr., and by 8 of her brothers. Mrs. Pittman is survived by her sons, Wesley (Billie) Pittman, James Paul Pittman, and Donald Eugene (Jan) Pittman; her daughters, Peggy Jean (Nenad) Downing, Annie Elizabeth Harden, Laura (Bill) Dapper, and Kathy Gail Pittman; her daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Pittman; her 21 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; her sisters, Ada Gossett and Mary Ruth Gross; several nieces and nephews also survive. Serving as pallbearers are Mrs. Pittman’s grandsons; Matthew Fowler, William Fowler, Michael Meroney, David Pittman, Tony Pittman, and her great-grandson Rocky Goff.
