Charlus Hayes

CALHOUN — Charlus Lea Smith Hayes, 86, passed away Friday, Dec. 8, 2017. She had lived in the Chattanooga and North Georgia areas and was of the Baptist faith. She was employed with Knights Inn for many years as a housekeeper and was a loving and devoted, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be truly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hayes and two sisters, Claudine Fortner and Johnny Ward. Survivors include her children, Marcella Rylee, of Calhoun, Ga., Peggy Boyd, of Flintstone, Ga., David Bryson, Joe Hayes Jr., of Chattanooga, Tenn., Paul Bryson, Billy Wayne Hayes, of Dallas, Ga., Joseph Hayes, of Rossville, Ga., and Zarah Jones, of East Ridge, Tenn.; 44 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel. Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
