Sara Guffee

Sara Joan Hurt Guffee, 84, of East Ridge, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at her home. She was the daughter of the late Ward Mayes and Verby Sims Hurt. Sara was a devoted mother and wife who always thought of others before herself. She was a graduate of Central High School and worked as a Child Care Teacher at Hutchinson Medical Center. She was a member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church attending the Pioneer Sunday School class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack William Guffee. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Karen Guffee, Kathy Guffee, and Nina Oxford; brothers, Jerry and Byrus Hurt; granddaughter, Julie Hawk; great-granddaughter, Chloe Jade Walston; and extended families; Her best friend, Jan Allison and sons Robert Waller, and Richard Waller were like family to Sara. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. B. Eric Rieger officiating. Interment will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
