Phoebe Brown Hamilton was born May 31, 1926, and died Feb. 16, 2017, at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Urania Price Brown; sister, Betty Duggan; and husband, Bob Hamilton. She is survived by two children, Bob Hamilton (Deborah) in Charlotte, N.C., and Susan Miller (Chapin), in Signal Mountain; Phoebe has five grandchildren, (Rosemary Kemp Gwin, Benjamin Hamilton, Jesse Hamilton, Nate Hamilton, and Jordan Hamilton); and five great-granddaughters, (Catherine, Maggie, Ellis, Madison, and Emily); her sister, Jeannette Eldridge and her brother, Carey Brown also survive her. Phoebe worked in the Hamilton County Circuit Court for many years and enjoyed helping and getting to know so many of the local attorneys. She was a longtime, active member of Central Presbyterian Church (now Northside Presbyterian Church). She also had a wonderful time volunteering for 20 years at the Dogwood Shop (benefiting Family & Children’s Services). Phoebe was a true servant and served as caretaker to many family members and others in need along the way during her life. Our family would like to express thanks to the entire staff at Alexian Healthcare for their care and compassion over the years and more recently to Hospice of Chattanooga for their guidance. A celebration of Phoebe’s life will be held in Marr Chapel at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. with family visitation afterward at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
