Andrew Rogers

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Andrew Bennett Rogers, 41, loving partner and father, proud resident of Brooklyn, N.Y., passed away from injuries sustained in an accident Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017. Born Jan. 16, 1976, to Dr. and Mrs. Jerry Rogers of Chattanooga, Tenn., Andrew grew up and attended school on Signal Mountain, Tenn., in the company of three older brothers and many friends. From an early age he was an independent thinker, creative, inventive, and graced with a keen sense of humor. He earned a bachelor’s degree in photography from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, where he met his lifelong partner and dear love, Season Newberry. Upon graduation, he moved to New York City and entered Columbia University, studying photography and earning a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2002. Andrew excelled in several media, not only photography, but drawing and sculpture as well. His work resides in both private and public collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. In addition to his own artistic pursuits, Andrew held the position of studio manager for sculptor Robert Gober, where he helped fabricate Mr. Gober’s sculptures and oversaw the installation of many important exhibitions. These included a 30-year retrospective at the Schaulager in Basel, Switzerland, in 2007; a major retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 2014; and an exhibit at the Fondazione Prada, Milan, Italy, 2015. Andrew’s last completed project with Mr. Gober was an installation of new works at the Reading Prison outside London, England, autumn of 2016. Andrew was admired and held in high esteem by museum and gallery professionals throughout the U.S. and Europe. He brought common sense, dignity, impeccable Southern manners, and respect to all relationships, whether supervising the work of plumbers or dining in Milan with Sra. Miuccia Prada. Andrew and Season welcomed sweet Ruby Lu into their home in 2010. An adoring and protective father, Andrew’s finest hours were those spent delighting in the close love and camaraderie of his girls, Season and Ruby. He cherished his large family and many friends, was proud of his artistic temperament and bent, savored music, good food, the delights of both city, small town, and countryside. Andrew was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Jerry Rogers, Chattanooga, Tenn., in 2008. In addition to partner Season and daughter Ruby, Andrew is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ardian Totten, of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; brother, Ansel Rogers (Jennifer), Nashville, Tenn., brother, Sloan Rogers (Rebekah), Greenville, S.C., and brother, Alexander Rogers (Shaleen), Nashville, Tenn.
