Steve Samuel Gravitt

Steve Samuel Gravitt, 73, of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017, in a local hospital. Steve was born in Lookout Mountain, Ga., on June 23, 1944, to his late parents, Willis Haskell and Gladys Lucille Gravitt. He has lived in Chattanooga for several years. He retired from North American Royalties Inc. Wheland Foundry in Chattanooga following 37 years of service as Operations Director. Following his retirement he also worked with Cecil Gravitt Construction and later joined his wife in managing her store Encore Consignment Boutique in Riverview. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chattanooga and enjoyed traveling, gardening, woodworking, cooking and hosting elaborate parties with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Willis H. Gravitt Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Sherry Shipley Gravitt; sons, Dennis L. Gravitt, of Pensacola, Fla., Darryl (Cindy) Gravitt, of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; daughters, Gisele (Barry) Everette and Gretchen (Jonathan) Tremmier, of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; stepdaughters, Neely (Anson) Hyde, of Signal Mountain, Tenn. and Hayden Crihfield, of Atlanta; brother, Cecil (Susan) Gravitt and sisters, Louise Wilson, Edith Daniel, Helen Miller, Linda Derryberry and Sarah (Tony) Mitchell, all of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; three aunts and two uncles; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; and former wife, Sara Clark Gravitt. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chattanooga with Rev. Brad Whitaker officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. The family will also receive friends at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the service hour.
