Tommie Standokes
ROSSVILLE — Mrs. Tommie Jean Standokes, 69, formerly of Flint, Mich., went home to be with her Jesus Tuesday July 18, 2017.
Tommie was born in Itta Bena, Miss., to her parents Tom and Maudine White Purnell. Upon graduation from
high school Tommie moved to Flint, Mich., where she worked on the assembly line for Chevrolet, G. M. I. Engineering Institute, Alarm institute as a dispatcher and finally the Hurley Medical Group where she worked as a medical assistant
before her retirement; in her early years Tommie sang with the Blue Bells and the
Inspirational Voices, loved her church and spending time with family; “Polly Voo”
as her church friends called her will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Tommie was preceded in death by her parents; aunt, Alice Walker; and a cousin, Gloria Hall; and a special friend, Ronald Roland Sr.
Survivors include daughter, Mardana
Thompson (Tracy), of Rossville; brother, Ernest Standokes Jr. (Catlin Layton) Godson Raymond Chin-kee-fatt (Nikkita), of Killeen, Texas; sister, Virgie Barnes; special friends, Callie, Delores and Joann, Henryne Carter and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to say thanks to Sierra Buckner and Chattanooga hospice for their profound compassion and attention shown during this most difficult time.
Services to honor the life of Mrs. Tommie Standokes will be Thursday, July 27, at
3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Chris Morris officiating. Visitation
will be from 2 p.m. until the service hour.
