Evans Shelby

Evans Matthew Shelby, 88, of Ooltewah, Tenn., passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017, in a local hospital. He was the son of the late Arthur and Merle Shelby and was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Susan Renee Shelby; and three siblings, Helen Wilson, Rhomas Shelby and Nan Glazier. Evans was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country as a combat engineer in the Korean Conflict. He retired as a drafting supervisor with Chevron Oil with more than 20 years of service. He was a member of Collegedale Community Seventh-day Adventist Church. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Shelby; four children, Carol Shelby, Donald Shelby, Christi Shelby, all of Ooltewah, Tenn., Connie (Michael) Brandt, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Lauren Shelby, Summer Shelby, Cole Shelby, Arron East; and several nephews. Graveside services will be conducted at noon, Friday, July, 28, 2017, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Arnold officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2017, at the funeral home.
