Frederick Kelly

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Frederick A Kelly Sr., 90, passed away on Monday morning, July 17, 2017. He was well-known to many as Dean Kelly at Arsenal Technical High School. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Hoosier award from the Governor for his longstanding and dedicated service to Tech. He received his undergraduate degree from Tuskegee University, a Master’s of Education from Ball State University, and an honorary doctorate from Martin University, Indianapolis. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Gideons International, Lions Club, and a board member at Wheelers Men’s Mission. He was honorably discharged from the Army with the rank of Captain after serving on active duty in World War II, the Korean War, and as a reservist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L R Kelly, and son, Frederick A Kelly Jr. He is survived by his two daughters, Janetta M Kelly, MD and Katrina L Kelly. Memorial services will be held at Arsenal Technical High School Auditorium from 3 to 5 p.m. on Aug. 20, 2017.
