JASPER — Mr. Jasper Balaam Smith Jr., 88, died at his home on Saturday, July 29, 2017. The son of the late Jasper Balaam and Eleanor Cassandra Rogers Smith, he was a longtime farmer and also raised cattle. He also enjoyed gardening and loved being with friends and family. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Samuel, Raymond, Billy Joe, Isaac, William, Ben and Leroy Smith. Survivors include sisters, Alma S. Vance, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Irene McAlpin, of Jasper, Tenn.; brothers, Ernest Smith, of Minneapolis, Minn., Willard Smith, Mack Smith, Clifford Smith, Donnie Smith and John “Butch” Smith, all of Jasper, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper today, July 31, 2017, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Steve Middlebrooks and Rev. John Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Jasper. Online condolences may be left at www.rogersfuneralhome.com.
