Eddie O'Neal

Eddie Ruth O’Neal, 95, of Chattanooga, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday night, June 7, 2017, in a local health care facility. She was the only child born to Jack and Laura Roland on April 15, 1922 in Centre, Ala. Having attended the Chattanooga Public Schools, she was proud graduate of Howard High School, Class of 1940. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Savior and was a faithful and dedicated member of Thompkin Chapel AME Zion Church for over 80 years. She retired from Memorial Hospital as a Nurse’s Assistant after 40 years of faithful and committed service. In addition to her parents and foster parents, Willie and Myrtle McGee, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Emmett J. O’Neal, Sr., and her son, Emmett J. O’Neal, Jr. Precious memories are shared by daughter. Linda O. Burks; son, Ivan L. O’Neal; granddaughters, Lynnette Burks Nance (Phillip), of Houston, Texas, and Benisha Thompson O’Neal; foster brother, Virgil V. McGee (LaFonde); very special friend, Estella Stamps; roommate, Barbara Turney; a host of other relatives, and her church family. Visitation is today, from 5 to 6 p.m., at the funeral home,and 1 hour prior to the funeral. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, at Thompkin Chapel AME Zion Church with Pastor J.R. Bridgeman as the eulogist.
