JoLeen Flack

JoLeen Flack, 91, of Chattanooga, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017. She was born on Nov. 10, 1925, in Liberty, Mo., to the late Nelson and Thelma Coffin Flack. She was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Flack and cousin, Carla Wearner whom she loved dearly and took her family in as her own. JoLeen graduated from high school in Shawnee, Okla., in 1942. Due to her father being in Civil Service, her family traveled a lot during World War II. She attended college at the University of Nebraska, Eastern Michigan College, the University of Illinois and the University of Michigan where she received her Master’s degree in early education in 1951. Joleen taught early childhood education for 34 years in Michigan and Illinois. She was a member of the United Methodist church, Phi Lambda Theta and the Lions Club. Since the age of 10, JoLeen played the violin. She loved playing her violin in small groups, assisted living homes and nursing homes. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, tatting and bobbin lace. She also loved Ancient and Civil War history. JoLeen participated in a program called Partnering for Eternity and built a loving relationship with Emma and Morgan Hockings, she always enjoyed their weekly visits. Lisa Johnson and family have had the privilege of knowing and loving her. She was always included in every family gathering. She was truly loved by everyone. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2017, at Collegedale Memorial Park with Chaplain Ricky Vaughn officiating. In her honor the family would like to invite everyone to wear pink; her favorite color. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2017, in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
