John Ufford

ALBERTVILLE — John Hawthorne Ufford, 66, passed to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at his brother’s home in Albertville, after an extended illness. He had been an attorney for 26 years in Crossville, Ala. His practice covered DeKalb, Marshall, Etowah, and Cherokee Counties. He is survived by a daughter, Beth Ufford Boatwright (Ross); three brothers, Roger Paul Ufford (Meg), Dr. Raymond C. Ufford (Mary Alice), and Fredrick DeWitt Ufford (Kathy; and his much-loved friend, Sheila Leaf; three half brothers; and two half sisters; grandchildren, Issac Boatwright and Ian Boatwright; several nieces and nephews also will miss him along with many friends and associates. Mr. Ufford was a graduate of University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the Memphis State University Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. He has been a member of the Two Springs Hunt Club and the 16th Georgia: Hardee’s Guard Battalion Civil War Living History Re-enactors. Thoughout his life he was involved with civic affairs affecting his community. An infant daughter, Deborah Regina Ufford, his mother, Golden Beatrice Ufford, of Chattanooga; and his father, John H. Ufford, of Fort Huachuca, Ariz, preceded him in death. Pallbearers will be Ray Ufford, Daniel Ufford, Ross Boatwright, Wallace Weaver, Robb Purse and Gary Nichols. Visitation was Monday evening, June 26, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens today, at 11 a.m. Crossville Memorial Chapel directing.
