Clevon Thompson

Clevon Edward "Mr. Speed" Thompson departed this earthly life Feb. 28, 2017, in Chattanooga. Born Sept. 23, 1945, he was the beloved son of Mildred L. Thompson and the late Noah L. Thompson. He was educated in the Chattanooga Public School System and was a proud graduate of Howard High School, class of 1964. Clevon received a Bachelor of Arts degree in recreation leadership from Knoxville College in Knoxville, Tenn. Later, he received a Master of Science in education degree in health, physical education, and recreation from Jackson State University in Jackson, Miss. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge. Clevon was a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. He was a strong believer in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and loved to sing His praises. In addition to his father, Clevon was preceded in death by his brothers, Noah Leroy Thompson Jr., and Ronald Eugene Thompson. Cherishing his memories are his mother, Mildred L. Thompson; sisters, Novella Harris, of San Antonio, Texas, Deborah (Jerome) Jackson, of Chattanooga, Shawanna Tipton, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Elder Katrina Thompson, Chattanooga; brother, Anthony Thompson, of Chattanooga; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Olivet Baptist Church. Interment: 2 p.m. in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity burial ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. this evening in the chapel, and the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 622-9995.
