Morrell Holcomb

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN — Morrell Holcomb, 86, went to be with the Lord Friday, March 3, 2017. He was an avid fan of sports, music, and conversing with others. He was a graduate of Ider High School; the University of Alabama, and worked on his Masters Degree at the University of Georgia. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a member of Company C. 151st Engineers Combat BA. He coached and taught in the Dade County, Whitfield County and the Dalton City School Systems. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Magnolia Abercrombie Holcomb; three brothers, Marvin Edgar, Milford and Marion Arthur Holcomb; daughter, Ava Maria Holcomb Mallett. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Anna Rochelle McBryar Holcomb; two sons, John Michael (Kim) Holcomb, of Dalton, Ga., and Allen Morrell Holcomb, of Trenton, Ga.; two grandsons, John Morrell (Brittney) Holcomb, of Rocky Face, Ga., and Zackery Thomas (Emily) Holcomb, of Chatsworth, Ga.; two granddaughters, Alicia Holcomb, of Dalton, Ga., and Taylor Nicole (Tyler) Mallett, of Varnell, Ga.; three great-grandsons, Aidan, Robbie and William; one brother, J. L. Holcomb, of Ider, Ala.; one sister, Sue Carroll (Glenn), of Chattanooga; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held noon Thursday, March 9, 2017, with Brother Jim Hixon officiating in the Chapel of Moore Funeral Home. Interment will be held in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors. Honorary pallbearers will be all former athletes and assistant coaches and member of Company C 151st Engineer Combat BA In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Miracle Field of Whitfield County or to New Salem Volunteer Fire Department.
