Larry Tolbert

William Lawrence “Larry” Tolbert, of Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at Alexian Village on Signal Mountain. A native and lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, Larry was the only son of the late Pete and Jeanette Tolbert. He was a 1960 graduate of Central High School and attended UT Chattanooga, graduating in 1973 with a BS in business management. Larry enjoyed a 42-year career with the U.S. Postal Service. He served in various post offices throughout Tennessee and Georgia, serving as Postmaster in Hixson upon his retirement. Larry was a member of several organizations, including the Rossville Exchange Club and Hixson Kiwanis Club, serving as past president of both organizations. He also served as Chairman of Board of Directors for the Chattanooga Federal Employees Credit Union and enjoyed membership with Creeks Bend Golf Club. Survivors include his wife, Janet Tolbert; daughters, Theresa Nelsen, of Mechanicsville, Md., and Kristy Lynn Tolbert, of Cookeville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Cole B. and Kathryn E. Nelsen, both of Mechanicsville, Md.; sisters, Karon Tolbert and Linda Sullivan, both of Chattanooga; as well as several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017, at St. Jude Catholic Church, Ashland Terrace, with Father Charlie Burton officiating. The family will gather with friends at the church on Sunday, March 19, one hour prior to the service at the church.
