W.H. Whittington

ROCK SPRING — W.H. Whittington Jr., 79, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017. Mr. Whittington was born May 1, 1937, in Laurel, Miss., to the late W.H. Whittington Sr., and Cordell Lee. He has lived in the North Georgia area for the past 10 years and was of the Baptist faith. He retired from J.C. Penney where he managed operations in several states. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Myers. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Marilyn Carter; son, Steve (Tracie) Whittington, Flintstone; daughters, Sharon Hamlett, Anderson, S.C., and Lisa (Dewey) Sprouse, Greenwood, S.C.; brother, James (Merle) Whittington, Laurel, Miss; grandchildren, Christie (Justin) Eller, Anderson, S.C., Tyler (Amanda) Whittington, Fort Oglethorpe, Summer (Jean Carlos) Castro, Greenville, S.C., Colton Whittington, Chattanooga and Dana Whittington, Flintstone; along with four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Brent Smith officiating. Interment will be Monday at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. with procession departing Heritage at 1:45 p.m. Visit www.heritagebattlefield.com to share condolences with the family.
