Harry Claiborne

Harry Acker Claiborne, 86, of Chattanooga, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at home surrounded by his family. Harry was born May 27, 1930 in Knoxville, Tenn. He was a graduate of Karn’s High School in Knoxville. He then furthered his education at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where he received degrees in education and electrical engineering. He was a veteran and SFC. of the U.S. Army where he served his country as an interpreter of the Korean language during the Korean War. Harry was retired from TVA as an electrical engineer with 31 years of service. He was a member of the Brainerd Baptist Church for more than 50 years where he sang in a quartet and the choir. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy. Survivors include his children, Deborah (William) Dyer, Stephen Eric (Valerie) Claiborne, and Philip Claiborne all of Chattanooga; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, Tenn., 37416. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Brainerd Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Rowland, Senior Adult Pastor officiating. Interment will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour before the service on Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 8214 East Brainerd Road.
