Junnus Womack

Junnus R. Womack, 93, died Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Chattanooga Memorial Hospital. A retired chemist, he had worked for Robins Air Force Base before moving to Ringgold. Born in McMinnville, Tenn., to Cass R. and Mollie Fuston Womack, Mr. Womack served during WWII as a medical technician with the 8th General Hospital on New Caledonia in the South Pacific. Upon return, he graduated from the University of Chattanooga, majoring in chemistry, and he married Avinelle Lawrence Womack. An independent, loving spirit, Junnus Womack enjoyed cooking, gardening, the computer, tending his finches, and encouraging family and friends. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, four brothers, and a sister. He is survived by one sister, Peggy Roy; two children, Dennis (Ann) Womack and Becky Womack; three grandchildren, Denise (Michael) Sanders, Sherry (Brad) Austin, and Emily Miller; and three great-granddaughters, Beatrice, Caroline, and Lauren Sanders. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends today, May 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, May 30, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road.
