Mary Clayton

SPRING CITY — Mary Jones Clayton, 77, died Sunday Nov. 5, 2017 at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. Born in Sweetwater, Tenn. Mary was the daughter of the late Clifford and Georgia Strickland Moore. She was a graduate of Sweetwater High School. Mary married the late Rev. Billy L. Jones on May 8, 1959. Together they served and dedicated their life to the ministry and service to others. Rev. Billy Jones died in 1998. She embraced God and her family with an intimate passion. Her passion continued with her service to others in her career of nursing. Mary received a nursing degree in her 50’s with a GPA Magna Cum Laude. She worked at Rhea Medical Center for the past 16 years serving others and making a difference in people’s lives. Mary was also preceded in death by her second husband Tommy Clayton and his son Tommy; her brothers Charlie Moore Sr., Clifford Moore Jr and Hershel Moore; sisters Betty A. Carver and Violet Lee Moore; and grandson David Jackson also preceded her in death. Survivors include her children Timothy (Susan) Jones, Deborah (Buddy) Jackson and Jeff Jones all of Spring City, and stepchildren Ronnie (Shirley) Clayton, Vickie Clayton (step daughter in law) and Teresa Guffey all of Dayton; brother Jimmy R. Moore of Niota, Tenn.;sister Barbara Heiman of Sweetwater; grandchildren Alisha (Tim) Rigney, Daniel Kelly, Robert (Leanne) Jones, Ethan (Jordan) Kelly, Cole Jackson, Jamie (Amanda Jackson, Jeff (Emily) Jackson, Melissa Jackson, Kadence Jackson, Reese Jackson and Ty Jackson; and several great grandchildren. She has lots of very special nieces and nephews. Mary was a daughter, sister, spouse, mom, caregiver, nannie, friend, aunt and confidant; but most importantly she was a daughter of the King! She will be greatly missed! Funeral services will be Friday Nov. 10, 2017 at 7 p.m. at the Wolf Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Connie Goins officiating. The family will receive friends at the church Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. A potluck dinner will follow the services. Burial will be Saturday Nov. 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Spring City Memorial Gardens.
