Cheyne Holcomb

Cheyne Franklin Holcomb, 87, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2017. He was born in Chattanooga on Dec. 17, 1929, and like his father, he was a master mechanic. Cheyne graduated from Central High School where he trained in R.O.T.C. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the Tennessee National Guard. A man with a gift for mechanics, he was a heavy equipment operator for TVA. He later became a diesel mechanic instructor for TVA. After retiring from TVA, he moved to North Carolina, where he reentered the workforce as the shop foreman at Southern Concrete Materials in Waynesville. After his second retirement, he returned to Chattanooga. Cheyne was a member of Bayside Baptist before transferring his membership to Ridgedale Baptist Church due to a move. At Ridgedale, he was a member of the Friendship Sunday School class. During his years at Bayside Baptist Church, he served as greeter and bus driver, as well as a participant in the Awana program. He was also a member of the Ruritan Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cheyne Franklin Sr. and Mary Emma Holcomb; first wife, Barbara Jean Holcomb; second wife, Mary Darlin Holcomb; son and daughter-in-law, David and Beckie Holcomb; and his siblings, Gene Holcomb, Charles L. Holcomb, John Holcomb, Shirley Watkins, and Margaret “Billie” Martin. Survivors include his son, Timothy “Tim” (Pat) Holcomb; grandchildren, Benjamin (Terrah) Holcomb; Matthew (Jericka) Holcomb; Noah (Nikki) Holcomb; great-granddaughter, Tenlee Holcomb; stepchildren, Jeff Wilson, Scott Wilson and Wendy Starnes; stepgrandchildren, Ryan and Devin Starnes; siblings Laura Sando and Jim (Susan) Holcomb. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the North Chapel with Dr. Doug Plumlee and the Rev. Grady Cooper officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends before the service on Monday from noon to 2 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist. 5401 Highway 153.
