Fay McCroskey

Fay McCroskey, 78, of Hixson, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, in a local health care facility. Fay was a daughter of the late Winford Harrison Holder and Thelma Alvis Blassingame Holder. A lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, she had spent the last 13 years in The Villages, Florida, enjoying retirement. She graduated from Central High School in 1957 and attended McKenzie Business College. Fay was a very strong willed, independent woman. She instilled in her children, whom she always placed first, courage and confidence in life. She had a career in real estate, however, spent the majority of her life as a homemaker. Additionally, she served in various civic clubs, most notably as former chairwoman for H.A.N.D.S. An avid sportsman, Fay was a well-known for bass fishing, winning many tournaments, and was active in the Chattanooga Bassin Gals. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Coy Winford Holder and Byron D. Holder; as well as a sister, Marilyn Blancett. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Don McCroskey; children, Spencer McCroskey (Kathleen) and Windy Calabro (Charlie); grandchildren, Alexandria Livingston (Tyler), Michael Blake Torbet, Lauren Claire McCroskey and Maxwell Spencer McCroskey; and a great-grandson, River Nash Livingston. A graveside service will be held at Ooltewah Cemetery on Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, from noon until 1 pm. at the funeral home.
