Gilbert Shankles

JASPER — Gilbert “Raye” Shankles, 65, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017. He was a deacon and trustee at First Baptist Church, Jasper. Raye was a retired firefighter for the City of Chattanooga. He was an avid golfer, Alabama football fan and enjoyed riding his tractor. Raye was a family man and loved his grandchildren more than anything. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald P. and Betty Gilbert Shankles; sister, Jo Renette Shankles Blair. He is survived by his wife, Susan Drew Shankles; children, Ashley Shankles (Josh Johnson) and Andrew (Rachel) Shankles; grandchildren, Anna and Luke Shankles; brother, Ronald (Jean) Shankles and several nieces and nephews. A visitation was held Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, with the service following at 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel with Rev. Greg Steele officiating.
