CHICKAMAUGA — William C. Abernathy, 79, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017. He had been a resident of Chickamauga since 1970 and was an active deacon of Fellowship Baptist Church. William was a truck driver for more than 40 years. and owned a Sinclair Service Station in Macon before owning the Chickamauga Cleaners. He was a loving and devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather and brother, who will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lonnie and Nola Abernathy and mother, Estelle Lee Abernathy. William is survived by his loving wife, of 59 yrs., Bobbie Abernathy; children, Angie (Kevin) Coffey and Billy (Pam) Abernathy; four sisters; two brothers; grandchildren, Josh, Alana, Trevor and Tessa; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017 in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. James Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in The Chickamauga City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and prior to service Wednesday.
