MSG Wayon Woodrow Hardee Sr., U.S. Army Retired, passed away on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017. He was the son of the late Johnny and Minnie Hardee and was also preceded in death by his sister, Frances (Jimmy) Williams; grandson, Daniel Woodrow Hardee Gossett; and niece, Robin Russell. He retired from the U.S. Army having served 21 years, 4 months, and 2 days. During his service he serve one tour in Vietnam and two tours in Germany. After his retirement he was a JROTC instructor at Griffin High School in Griffin, Ga., for 18 years. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dollie Exalee Fowler; son, Wayon W. (Laura) Hardee Jr.; daughter, Denise Lee Hardee; grandchildren, Wayon Corey Lee Hardee, James Edward Gossett Jr., Haylee Texas Gossett, Ethan Cole Gossett, Austin Nicholas Woodrow Hardee and Braden Tyler Lee Hardee; brothers, Elbert Luther Hardee, Johnny Dale Hardee; sisters, Christine (Harry) Carter, Jessie Ruth (William) Clardy, Linda Faye (James) Belamey, Wanda Gail (Dan) Williamson; and lifelong friend, Roy Grady (Martha) Cook; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.
