Ronald Barnes

IDER — Ronald "Barney" Dewight Barnes, 70, died Thursday, June 28, at Erlanger Medical Center after suffering a massive stroke. He was surrounded by the love of his family and dear friends. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. ET at Sunrise Farms in Trenton, Ga. A Military Honors will be rendered by the Vietnam Veterans of America on Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. ET at Chattanooga National Cemetery with cremains to be placed in the Columbarium Tribute Wall. Survivors include wife of 39 years, Pamela Stanley Barnes; daughter, son, Ronald Barnes II (Angela), daughter, Athena Ann Kinsey (Donald); grandchildren, Leviathan and Syranie; brother, Sam Barnes (Edie), sisters, Nancy Hughes, Faye Beaver (Jim), Sheila Avery, JoAnna Harvey (Ed); and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Barnes was a Vietnam veteran serving two tours "in country" with the U.S. Navy. He was retired from IWG, (formerly Hudson Wire) in Trenton, Ga. He was a life time member of Vietnam Veterans of America Association. A member of North Sand Mountain Lodge No. 920 of Free and Accepted Masons. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Jasper and Ellen Luster Barnes. After returning from Vietnam, Ron swore to spend the rest of his life helping children in any way he could.  He was a long time member, president and director of DeKalb Saddle Club and Tri State Association, where he enjoyed working with all his "saddle club kids".  He also worked very hard to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. His wish was always "instead of doing something for me, make a donation to St. Jude's". With that in mind we would love any memorials be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
