Tom McLaren

Tom M. McLaren, 87, passed away peacefully on July, 20, 2018, after a brief illness. Tom had a long and distinguished career with Exxon, working initially as a field geologist and later as a manager in New York City. His work allowed him to live in many places in the U.S. as well as Australia. He loved to travel and enjoyed visiting other cultures from around the globe. Tom was an Army veteran in Korea, and a dedicated life-long Presbyterian. He loved his family and was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Ripley; brother, Robert McLaren and wife Marga Schjebal. Tom is survived by his children, Tom McLaren (wife Diane), Mark McLaren; sister, Marion Roever; and nephew, Lee Roever. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Katie McLaren Salley, Thomas McLaren, M.D., Maegan Martinez; as well as great-grandchildren Leo and Liam Salley. He was a generous supporter of the arts and social service organizations, and loved his extensive music collection as well as his two Siamese cats. He will be dearly missed. Services will be held at Hamilton Memorial Gardens at Chapel of Devotion on Aug. 4, with a family greeting at 2 p.m. and services at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
