John Strahle

MARIETTA — John Michael Strahle Jr., passed away on Aug. 6, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., on May 1937 to Sara Stanley Strahle and John Michael Strahle Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Phyllis Moorman and Emma Sue (Bootie) Varallo. Survivors include sisters, Mary Agnes (Cottie) Wellborn, Dataw Island, S.C.; and Sara Rowlette, Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.; and over 40 nieces and nephews. Michael graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Chattanooga, Tenn., and attended classes at the University of Tennessee. He served two terms in the U.S. Army as a communications specialist. He worked at Strahle-Johnson Supply in Chattanooga, Tenn., and the Noland Company in industrial plumbing sales. After retirement, he worked at both Home Depot and Sears in retail sales. After family and friends, his great loves were cooking, opera and especially his dog Gertrude. A funeral mass will be held at the Catholic Church of St. Ann, 4905 Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30062 on Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m. with a reception for family and friends in Noland Hall at the church. Burial will be held on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 1 p.m. at the Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1 Mt. Olivet Dr., Chattanooga, TN 37412. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent to Boys Town, 14100 Crawford St. Boys Town, NE 68010 or St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
