Charlotte Burton

Rev. Charlotte B. Burton died Dec. 20, 2018, at the age of 75. She was a proud member of Christ Community Church under the leadership of her nephew, Pastor Mark Garrett. Rev. Burton accepted her call to the ministry at an early age and was one of the first female ministers in Chattanooga. She served as the Assistant Pastor of Wesley Chapel Christian Community Church for over 40 years under the leadership of her mentor and dear friend, Rev. H.H. Wright. Rev. Burton was a poet and gifted writer. In 1991 she wrote and produced “Prayer Changes Things”, a musical that opened to a sold-out audience at the Tivoli Theatre. Rev. Burton was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Walter and Sennie Arnold; daughter, Cynthia Williams; brother, Ernest Walter Arnold, Jr., sister, Mary Brazelton; and great-aunt, Mary Gordon. Survivors include her three daughters, Carla B. (Robert) Gaines, Mableton, Ga., Carol (David) Meredith and Crystal Burton, both of Chattanooga; her brother, Floyd Arnold and sister, Cladie Arnold, both of Chattanooga; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; devoted nieces, Cheryl, Donna, and Diana Brazelton; her beloved great niece Alexandra Brazelton, all of Chattanooga; as well as several other nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends. A funeral service will be held on Friday, 12 noon at The Olivet Nations Church 4872 Jersey Pike Chattanooga, TN 37416 with Bishop Kevin Adams officiating and Pastor Mark Garrett delivering the eulogy. The body will lie-in-state Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, from noon to 5 p.m. Arrangements by John P. Franklin Funeral home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 423-622-9995.
