Winnie Johnson

ROSSVILLE — Winnie Lora Johnson, 93, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018, in a local hospital with her family by her side. Winnie was born in Jackson County, Ala., but lived most of her life in the Rossville area. She was of the Baptist faith and worked for many years as a seamstress for Wade Brown, Gay Jackson, and Woodbridge furniture manufacturing. Winnie loved to take care of her yard, getting the grass mowed “just right” and working in her flower and rose garden. Winnie loved animals, especially cats. She loved spending time with her family and children. She was preceded in death by her son, Farrell Johnson; parents, Irve and Rosa Dukes; brothers, Chester Dukes, Walter Dukes, Junior Dukes, and Winston Dukes; sisters, Dora Tribble, Roberta Sparks, Virginia Black, and Estelle Carson. Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Wayne) Smith; grandchildren, Paula (Richard) Beene and Anthony (Bridgett) Smith; great-grandchildren, Michelle (Adam) Orr, Christopher (Stacey) Beene, Amber (Chance) Barrows, and Thomas (Kimberly) Smith; great-great-grandchildren, Candis Smith, Luke Orr, Wyatt Beene, Raelynn Smith, Trevor Smith, and Connor Barrows. Condolences may be sent to www.lane-southcrestchapel.com Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel. Entombment will follow in the Lakewood South Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. until the Funeral Hour at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
