Jane Hawkins

Jane Hawkins, 84, passed away Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018. Jane was born in West Palm Beach, but has been a resident of Chattanooga since 1958. She was an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, First Centenary United Methodist Church (FCUMC) – Morgan Class, United Methodist Women, Missionary Ridge Garden Club and the DAR – Judge David Campbell Chapter. Jane taught elementary school in Florida, and was retired from working at Girls Preparatory School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University where she also participated in the flying trapeze troupe in the University Circus. Jane volunteered for Senior Neighbors Portable Meals, Volunteers in Medicine and Inner City Ministry at FCUMC. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, William Walker Sr. and Dorothy Walker; and her brother, William Walker, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Charles Hawkins; her children, Susan Johnston and John Hawkins; her son and daughter in law, William Johnston and Lisa Hawkins; and her grandchildren, Kathryn Johnston, Daniel Hawkins and Noah Hawkins. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, Mar. 1 at 2 p.m. at First Centenary United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made in Jane’s name to Girls Preparatory School or to FCUMC – Morgan Class.
