Margaret Scholz

SPRING CITY — Margaret Landreth Scholz, 95, passed away on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at the Spring City Care and Rehabilitation Center. Margaret was born to Mack and Ethel Cawood in Spring City on Feb. 22, 1922, (Washington’s birthday). As a child, she was delighted that everyone flew flags on her birthday. A 1939 graduate of Spring City High School, Margaret was the eldest of five children. Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Colonial’s Pajama Plant were her early employers. Margaret was one of the original employees of Spring City Pharmacy from where she retired in 2014 at age 92. She was a charter member of the Spring City Business and Professional Women’s Club, served as a Gray Lady at the Rhea County Hospital and was a lifelong member of the Spring City United Methodist Church. Being an avid baseball fan, her favorite teams were the Cincinnati Reds, Chattanooga Lookouts and whoever was playing the Braves! Traveling, gardening and cats were her pastimes. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James “Buddy” and William “Bill” Cawood; sister, Lucille Maybery,; husband, Roland Landreth and husband, Bill Scholz. Survivors include her son, Harry (Donna) Landreth, Spring City; niece, Sharon (Lew Smith) Dines, Spring City; sister, Roxie “Tootsie” (Jim) Gibson, Nashville; nephew, Jimmy (Robin) Gibson; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one grandnephew. Funeral services are Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Wyrick officiating. Interment will follow in the Spring City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Vaughn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spring City United Methodist Church, P. O.
