Richard DeVercelly

Richard W. “Devo” DeVercelly passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 18, 2018. Devo graduated from South Houston High School, Houston, Texas in 1976 where he was in ROTC. He served 8 years in the U.S. Navy’s nuclear submarine program, including an assignment on the NR-1. After his service, Devo remained in the nuclear business, primarily in operations, obtaining senior reactor operator licenses at two sites after which he joined the Nuclear Regulatory Commission where he qualified as a license examiner and instructor. He retired from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a Senior Reactor Instructor. He loved being outside, boating, attending NASCAR events and attempting golf. Devo was loved by his family and friends as well as his “fur babies”. His generosity, intelligence, and sense of humor will be missed by all that knew him, of which there are many because Devo never met a stranger. Devo was preceded in death by his mother, Lois, father, Richard; sisters, Carole and Tammy; and his brother, Tim. He is survived by his last and greatest love, Kathleen O’Donohue; his sisters, Kathy Pursley (Jimmy) and Maria DeVercelly; his adopted O’Donohue family, Timothy O’Donohue (Missy), Mary Jo Bonhivert, John O’Donohue, Edward O’Donohue (Laura), Elizabeth Fletcher, Ann Marie Jefferson (John P.) Margaret Hernandez and Maureen Lafauci (Tom); as well as 23 nieces and nephews; 13 great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the memorial service beginning at 1 p.m. at Companion Funeral and Crematory Service, Cleveland Tn. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warriors Project or your local non-kill pet shelter. You are invited to share a personal memory of Richard or your condolences with his family at his online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral and Cremation Service and the Cody family are honored to assist the DeVercelly family with these arrangements.
