Richard Strauss
Richard A. Strauss Jr. passed away June 3, 2018, after a short illness. He was born Sept. 27, 1943, in
Pittsburgh, Pa. A graduate of Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga and Bellarmine College in
Louisville, Ky. He retired from a successful career in management with Sears, Roebuck and Co. and
recently, the Salvation Army in Chattanooga. He proudly served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in
death by parents, Richard A. Strauss and Clare Abplanalp Strauss; brother, James Strauss and wife Mary Ann Farmer Strauss.
He is survived by his wife, Toni Strauss; son, Richard A. Strauss III (Kandi King), Sherman Oaks, Calif.; daughter, Elizabeth Strauss Thibo (Jeff Miller), Atlanta; stepson, John Lynch (Jennifer); stepdaughter, Teresa Lynch (Jerry); brother, John Strauss (Martha), Indianapolis; sisters, Clare Hetzler (Peter), Signal Mountain; Deborah O’Dwyer (Ronny), Denver; Gerry Strauss (Danny Aldridge), Richmond, Va.; three grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and friends.
Richard was a devout Catholic, and ardent fan of the University of Notre Dame football, NASCAR racing and - closest to his heart - his family.
A funeral Mass was held Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at 3 p.m. with nephew, Father Ronald R. O’Dwyer, Jr., S.J., and Father Charles Burton at St. Jude Catholic Church.
Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery at a later
date.
