Jean Croft

Jean Eleanor Croft, 94, of East Brainerd, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018 at her home. Born in Orange, NJ to Phillip James and Charlotte Louise Rugg, she moved with her family to Knoxville, TN in 1935. During WWII she served as a Red Cross Nurse’s Aid and Pharmacist Mate in the WAVES (USNR). She graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1948 and was employed by the Tennessee State Health Department as a Microbiologist for 40 years in the Division of Laboratories at Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga. She was a member of the Hickory Valley Garden Club and the Moccasin Bend DAR Chapter. She was a member of St. Martin Episcopal Church. Mrs. Croft was preceded in death by her husband Reuben Lillard Croft. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Susan Moon, Chattanooga, Barbara Ellen (Jack) Brown, Kingston, GA; son, William David Croft, Chattanooga; grandson, Ian McKinley Moon, Chattanooga; brother, Philip James (Patricia) Rugg, Maryville, TN; nieces, Betsy, Cathy, Elaine and Chris. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 pm at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church with Father James Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
