Arthur Walker

BRIDGEPORT — Arthur “Cookie” Walker, Sr., 96, a life-long resident of Bridgeport, entered into eternal peace on June 14, 2018, at the Cumberland Health and Rehabilitation Center. Cookie was born Aug. 26, 1921, to the late Q.T. and Julia Criswell Walker. For more than five decades he worked as a brick mason throughout Alabama, Georgia and Tenn. He proudly received his 50 year-year lapel pin and gold-plated Life Member card from the International Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers in 2009. He was a member of the Bridgeport Church of Christ and he loved digging into his remarkable reservoir of memories to share stories with loved ones and friends. In addition to his parents, Cookie was preceded in death by wives, Mary Wiggins Walker and Lelia Allison Walker; daughters, Vivian “BeBe” Allison and Mary Joann McCarver; son, Robert Earl Walker; sisters, Dorothy Blair, Edith “Dede” Walker and Rosa “Lil Baby” Walker; and grandsons, Johnny Walker and Pennelton Clark. He is survived by two sons, Dr. Arthur (Rosa) Walker, Jr. of Huntsville, Alabama and Kenneth “Sandy” Walker of Toledo, Ohio; sisters, Frances Jean Walker of Atlanta, Fannie Henry of Bridgeport, Barbara Sue Goldston of Washington D.C., and Phyllis Kelly of Bridgeport; twenty grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at the Bridgeport Church of Christ, 804 Chisolm Avenue. Visitation will be held at Rogers Funeral Home, 400 Laurel Avenue, South Pittsburg, Tenn. on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., as well as one hour immediately prior to the funeral service on Wednesday at Bridgeport Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bridgeport Church of Christ or the American Diabetes Association.
