Karen Barker
GREAT FALLS, Va. — Karen Leigh Timmons Barker, 61, passed away unexpectedly at home on June 13, 2018.
She is survived by her husband, Chris Barker and their children Kit, Anna, Claire and
Laura, of Great Falls; her son, Ryan Taliaferro, of New York City; her parents, Bill and Mimi
Timmons, of Washington, D.C.; her mother, Jean Lovegrove Stone, of Anna Maria Island, Fla.; her sister, Kim Timmons Gibson (Tom); her brother, Bill Timmons Jr., (Cheryl), all of Washington; her brother, Kevin Stone (Caroline), of Chattanooga Tenn.; and many beloved nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Karen was born in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 16, 1956, where she attended local schools until moving to Lookout Mtn, TN where she went to Girls’ Preparatory School (GPS). She then
moved to Brussels, Belgium to finish high school at The International School of Brussels (ISB).
She attended Mount Vernon College, The University of TN, and Oberlin College and then worked at the international trade consulting company, Global USA.
Karen was a devoted mother, a loyal friend and a vibrant soul with a great sense of humor who enjoyed travel and the arts, but was happiest when surrounded by her large and extended
family.
Karen’s memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, at St. Francis Episcopal Church in
Great Falls, at 9220 Georgetown Pike, with a reception immediately following at the church.
Family will also receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. that evening in the same location. Interment will be private.
