Phillips Boggs

JASPER — Phillips “Phil” Boggs, 76, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018. A lifelong resident of the Jasper area, he was born on Aug. 18, 1941, a son of the late Virgil E. and Agnes P. Boggs. Phil graduated from Marion County High School where he played both baseball and football. Following high school he played a short time in minor-league baseball. His love of sports continued throughout his entire life, he enjoyed watching the Tennessee Vols and the Marion County Warriors. He was the former owner and operator of the local family business, Boggs Pottery. He also enjoyed a longtime career in the trucking industry, always professional and winning many awards for his work. Phil loved to travel and enjoyed eating a good meal. He also enjoyed skeet shooting. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by son, Andy Boggs; daughter, Kelly Waters; and brother, Edward Boggs. Survivors include his loving wife, Julia Layne Boggs; children, Lynn Carter, Mark, Tim, and Clay Boggs; grandchildren, Thomas, Kurt, Lindsay, Parker, Grace, Justin, Ava, and Tyler; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A funeral service to commemorate his life will be conducted from the Jasper Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Monday, June 25, 2018, at 11 a.m. CDT with Reverend Joey Manis officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Jasper. The family will receive friends for visitation Sunday, June 24, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
