Mike Woody

CLEVELAND — Michael Ray Woody, 50, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, Tenn., died June 24, 2018. Born May 6, 1968, Woody went home to be with his Lord and Savior after a long, brave battle with cancer. Woody was a Lieutenant (Ret.) of the Bradley County Rescue Service for many years, serving his community and fellow citizens. Mike was named among the “Top Ten Rescuers” many of those years. He was employed by Tarver Distributing for 20 plus years receiving the award for top salesman of the year several times. He was preceded in death by his father, Dewey Vernon Woody Sr.; grandparents, Bill and ErnaLee Woody and W.O. “Bill” and Della Vina Pierce; and aunt, Patricia Woody Dunn. He is survived by his mother, Doris Woody Rumba and stepfather, Thomas Rumba; brothers, Dewey Vernon Woody Jr. (Melissa) and Jimmy Don Woody; stepsisters, Robbie Scott (Rusty), Tammee Wilson (Bryan), Dawn Carson (Jeff) and Kristen McCormick (Leo); stepbrother, Michael Rumba (Carlada); nieces, Piper Woody, Dedra West (Adam), Ciara Woody and Kamryn Woody. great-nephew, Jesse Skylar Cook and great-niece, Ellie Shay Young; uncles, Billy Wayne Pierce (Jean), R.B. Pierce (Bettie), Kenneth Woody (JoAnn), all of Cleveland, Ralph Pierce (Carmen), of Lynn, Kan., and Billy Don Woody (Phillis), of Riceville; aunts, Betty Jean Palmer (Harold), Betty Woody Campbell and Sylvia Woody Swetman, of Cleveland, Jerrell Elliott, of Morristown and Cathy Smith (Gary), of Fort Myers, Fla.; great-aunt, Lenora Patterson, of Cleveland; great-uncles, Joe Graham Pierce, of Paris, and Kenneth Dalton (Kathleen), of Coker Creek. He was much loved by a large family including many cousins and by special friends Mickey and Melanie Casson and longtime employer and friend Ross Tarver. The family would like to thank all of Mike’s doctors, nurses and medical professionals who took such excellent care of him especially Jesus Melendez, P.A., Jodi Watson, P.A., Dr. Matthew Graham, Dr. Prayash Patel, Dr. Lisa Virostek, Cooke’s Pharmacy, CVS Specialty Pharmacy and Hearth Hospice. The funeral will be conducted on Wednesday, June 27, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Cleveland with Pastors Gary and Cathy Smith and Pastor Kevin Cheatham officiating. Interment will follow at Calhoun Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. William Lamb officiating. Grey Gibson, K. C. Emerson, Rod Emerson, Kenny Emerson, David Embry, Stan Clark, Teddy Rogers, John Tyler Jr., Joe Blackburn, Rusty Scott, Billy Pierce, Todd Allman and Billy Swetman will serve as pallbearers. Bradley County Fire-Rescue and the employees of Tarver Distributing will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Cleveland.
