Louise Friel

FORT OGLETHORPE — Nancy “Louise” Rodgers Friel, 98, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Rosewood Senior Living Center in Fort Oglethorpe. “Louise” to all her friends and “Nana” to her close family was a resident of Fort Oglethorpe since 1950. She was a devoted Christian and former member of Fort Oglethorpe First Baptist Church for over 40 years and was also a member of Fort Oglethorpe United Methodist Church. Louise was born on Jan. 5, 1920, in Lafayette, Ga. She was the daughter of Harvey and Jessie Rodgers and had two brothers Jack and Robert Rodgers, all of whom have preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William Frank Friel and her son, Doyle Wayne Friel. She is survived by her daughter, Judith Diane Friel Bailey and husband, Melvin Bailey; granddaughter Nancy Michelle Bailey; great-granddaughter, Megan Sabrina Bailey; brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. Louise lived a full life and enjoyed cooking, reading, quilting, doing word finds, traveling and spending time with friends and family. Louise was an active member of the Fort Oglethorpe Community working at the Fort Oglethorpe Fire Department for 28 years before her retirement. The family would like to say a special thank you to Martha Jones, of Rossville, for being a wonderful caretaker and friend to Louise over the last few years. The family would also like to thank the staff in the Memory Care unit at Rosewood for their love and compassion. All of these people meant a great deal Louise’s family. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be on Friday morning, March 16, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Entombment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
