George Lawley

George Bliss Lawley, 96, of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., passed away on March 27, 2018. Born in Bessemer, Ala. in 1921, George was an All-State football player in Bessemer and went on to play at the University of Alabama. George enlisted in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He piloted B-24 bombers until he was shot down over Germany in 1945. He was a POW until he was re-united with his family when the war ended. His hobbies included oil-painting, sailing, gardening, woodworking, and watching college football and wrestling. For over 30 years he served as the shift foreman at Dupont. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Warnick Lawley; and daughter-in-law, Marcie Lawley. He is survived by his son, George Lawley Jr. (Andrea) and his daughter, Mary (Richard) Stechman; along with grandchildren, Anne (Roger) Gehrke, Rob (Kate) Lawley, Jeff (Carrie) Lawley, Amy (Brad) Curtis and Mary (Craig) McKenzie; and several great-grandchildren Andrea Lawley, Peyton Lawley, Addison Lawley, Kody Roddy, Lukas Roddy, Kami Roddy, Lily Curtis, Audrey Curtis, Lucy Curtis, Evelyn Curtis, Gavin McKenzie, Brady McKenzie and Nolan McKenzie. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at 1 p.m. at Wann Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery.
