Mary Ruth Alexander

Mary Ruth (Moochie) McAfee Alexander, born May 7, 1932, in Soddy-Daisy, left this world on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13, 2018, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer on Monday, April 30, 2018. Mary married James A. Alexander on May 9, 1951, and traveled with James during his 22-year career serving in the Army. After his military retirement, they made their home in Soddy-Daisy, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Alexander; infant son, Sidney Wayne Alexander; parents, Roy and Evadna McAfee Qualls; sister, Betty Qualls Vandergriff. She is survived by sons, James G. Alexander, of Soddy-Daisy and Roy Ellis Alexander, of NC; grandsons, James (Emily) Alexander, of Columbus, Ga., Jason Alexander, of Atlanta, Ga., David and Dustin Alexander, of NC; and granddaughter, Jaime Alexander, of NC. She is also survived by brother, Charles (Marlene) Qualls, of Soddy-Daisy; sisters, Jimmie Jo Holland, of Soddy-Daisy, Susie (Brad) Hogue, of Soddy-Daisy, and Anna Mae (Chester) Lockhart, of Gainesville, Ga.; as well as eight great-grandchildren. Mary was a member of Daisy Church of God. She loved reading her Bible, sewing, quilting, crocheting, and gardening; and especially working in her flower garden. She worked many years in the textile and apparel industries. She worked in the apparel industry as a designer and supervisor for many years. Mary became a care giver to many patients in the surrounding area. She continued caring for others until she was hospitalized 2 weeks ago. Special thanks to Ark Ridge care givers that have provided home care for her son, James, during the past 8 years; especially Leigh Mays and Laura Staley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in remembrance of Mary R. Alexander to Daisy Church of God or your favorite charity. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Bishop Caleb Bolton officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
