Rodger Dodson

LAKE OCONEE/GREENSBORO — Rodger William Dodson, formerly of Chattanooga, and Atlanta, died on May 19, 2018. Mr. Dodson was born in Chattanooga on April 3, 1938, to his parents the late Earl Rodger Dodson and Reba Winfield Horton. Known by friends as Roddy, he grew up in Chattanooga, attending Baylor High School. He moved to Atlanta in 1957 to attend Georgia Institute of Technology where he graduated with a degree in Architecture. He went on to have a very successful career as an architect with firms including Smallwood Reynolds, Cooper Carry & Associates and Howell, Rusk and Dodson. He met the Love of his life, Virginia Ezell Dodson in Atlanta and they married Nov. 22, 1964. The couple were long-time members of the University Yacht Club at Lake Lanier. He loved the sun, water, boating and Chapel Services at the Yacht Club. Rodger and Virginia traveled extensively to beautiful locations around the world, and he often shared that St. Barth was their favorite destination. He was a passionate student of fine design, structures and landscapes throughout his life. He also collected fine art, cars and coins. Moving to Reynolds Plantation, Lake Oconee in 2003 gave him another opportunity to be near the water. Rodger enjoyed showing a car each year at the Annual Georgia Classic Cruisers event in Greensboro. He attended Greensboro First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed helping those less fortunate than himself and spent many hours coaching and mentoring others. A lover of fine food, he even learned how to cook after he retired. His specialties were his chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies and pecan pie! Rodger is survived by his brother, Gregory Dodson and wife Sharon of Henderson, Nev. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 202 West Broad, Greensboro. Friends and family will receive guests one hour prior to the service in the Family Life Center of the church. Burial will be at Macon Memorial Park, Macon Ga. at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy in the form of donations be made to First United Methodist Church, Greensboro.
