Stephen Whisler

Stephen Paul Whisler, 70 of Chattanooga, Tenn., passed away on Oct. 31, 2018. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Signal Mountain. Steve was a graduate of Central High School. He worked and retired from the United States Postal Service after 22 years. Stephen or “Steve” as he was more widely known as was an avid University of Tennessee fan. Loved everything about the Vols. Some of his favorite pastimes were spent fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Steve was preceded in death by his son, John Daniel Whisler; and his parents, Paul and Frances Whisler. Left behind to cherish Steve’s memory are his wife of 52 years, Claudie; children, Stephen Paul (Michelle) Whisler II, Chattanooga, Tenn., Shelley Ann (Wesley) Bird; grandchildren, Garrett and Aislinn Bird, all of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; sisters, Jeanne Crawford, Lookout Mountain, Paula (Jerry) Kernea, Trenton, Ga., and Cindy Isley, Chickamauga; several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. A Celebration of Steve’s Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Monday Nov. 5, 2018, at 1 p.m. with Bro. Darrell Smith and Rev. Dwight DeNegly officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in the Lakewood Memory Gardens in Lookout Valley.
