James Buffington
James “Richard” Buffington, 84, of Chattanooga, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Nov. 26,
2018.
Richard was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area where he worked as a paper boy for the Chattanooga Times Free Press, served as stock boy for Home Stores, worked the soda
fountain at Kingwood Drug Store, the accounting office at Peerless Mills and served as vice
president at Chattanooga Federal Savings and Loan. In August of 1969 he founded Buffington
Real Estate and for 37 years managed one of the most respected firms in the
community. He was hardworking, smart and funny. He did so much for everyone else before thinking of himself.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ernest and Lorena Buffington; and brother, Eugene Buffington.
Survivors include his wife Nancy; daughters, Karen Schwan (Steve) and Lori Maughon (Felton); stepson, Mike Nelson (Charlotte); grandchildren, Nathan Schwan (Lauren), Stephanie Schwan,
Jonathon Schwan, Joshua Maughon (Julie), Joseph Maughon, Courtney Edwards (Floyd), Dillon Nelson (Paige);
great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Edwards and Maddux Nelson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Wesleyan Church, 7725 Shallowford Road,
Chattanooga, TN 37421.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, in the funeral home chapel with M.C. Tolbert officiating. Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
