Mary Abercrombie
Mary Jolley Abercrombie left this world peacefully and entered the eternal presence of our Lord
Almighty the morning of Oct. 12, 2018. God knew exactly how to mold his daughter through the
years, making her a vibrant, loving woman who gave graciously to all she knew. Her kitchen was a place
she loved to be, making batches of fudge, apple pies, friendship cake and thousands of pounds of
peanut butter brittle. Mary was a true “southern cook”, seldom using a recipe, but instead calling on her extensive experience. She always made sure family and friends had their favorite treats and gave with a
servant’s heart. When she wasn’t cooking there were fleece blankets to be made or ceramics to be
painted. Many people around town benefited from blankets she created and gave away, her hand
painted ceramics, all made with a personal touch for specific recipients decorate the homes of many in
the community.
Mary spent many years playing golf and it was one of, if not her favorite activities. Even in play, she
found ways to benefit others. Frequently playing, donating time and fundraising for many causes with
her friends in the C.W.G.A. Mary was a lover of all creatures furred or feathered, and her backyard was
always a hub of activity. Her green thumb was envied by many, and many of her favorite orchids and
plants were decades old. The smiles she created, the hugs she gave and generosity she extended
permeated every activity she was involved in. She may have not realized the impact made on those
around her, but we did. Mary loved in her own unique way and her smiles, happy birthday songs and
kisses will be missed by everyone who knew her. We know she is celebrating with praises for her
Creator along with those who have arrived before her, and while we long for more time, we know the
real celebration will come when we see her again. When that time comes, I suspect she will yell “fore”,
and come riding towards us laughing and smiling on a golf cart specially made for her. What a great day that will be!
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Minnie Sheets and her daughter Terri
Teague.
Those awaiting a reunion with a loving grandmother, mother and wife are her husband, David
Abercrombie, children and their families, Jay, Kelly and Grace Jolley, Mickey Jolley and Madison Jolley,
Brandy Teague and her brother John Teague. She dearly loved her stepsons Randy, Steve and Kelly Abercrombie and their wives, as well as her grandson Gabe.
